Tommy: I wish I had a layout of Powderhorn. I can remember a lot of hole, and how SOME fit together, but what we need is an aerial of the place from the 1970s. Keep us posted in your quest... h

Greetings from another golf lover who learned the game at Powder Horn.

Indeed it was a beautifully designed Par 3 layout (Cornish). Your comment that "par 3 course" doesn't do it justice is perfect.

I believe it would have been the 14th, not the 11th, that you " butchered" and threw a tantrum. The 11th was gently downhill, bordering Walnut Street by the course entrance. Played about 135. The 14th played STEEPLY uphill, about 110 or so.
Parking lot behind tee area. Bigundulating green.

Then came the 15th, with a "free lift from the berm". I will never forget the word "berm".

I played there til I was about 14, and NEVER drove the 250 yard 16th (a hole that could be on any pro tour stop). I will take that life regret to my grave

Thank you for the beautiful tribute to your Dad.

Thank you! Great writing! I was talking with my father this morning about golf courses in Massachusetts and we couldn't remember the name Powderhorn. I read this whole page and everything is triggering beautiful memories. A friend of mine followed Lee Trevino for 18 holes at a PGA event at Pleasant Valley. Can you imagine? He played fast and entertained the crowd. Thanks again!

Hal: I knew your Dad through the monthly No Agenda Club and he and I hit it off immediately four years ago. We talked a lot about your outings on the golf course and how proud he was of the way your life progressed both professionally and personally. He loved being with you and playing golf with you. I never had that honor although we talked about playing at my Club- The Milton Hoosic Club (1891) - redesigned by Willie Park Jr.in @1893. I would love to have you represent him and invite you to be my guest there in the near future. I am a cancer survivor, my brother has three primary cancers and your Dad did. That was part of our bonding. He was a special man. MY best to you and your Mother in this time of saddness. Paul

Very sorry to hear about your father. It hits close to home as my father is very close to your father's age. A good reminder to cherish the time we have left. Very touching article.

Hal,

Beautiful story about your Dad. I remember him well --especially that full head of gray hair! I also remember what a kind and unassuming man he was.

Hi Hal, You have a written a very moving piece about your dad. I miss him very much. Although I am not a golfer, I appreciate the love of the game that you shared with him and see him very clearly through the descriptions of your many wonderful times together. I am glad to have, via your tribute to him, this opportunity to be with your dad once again. He was a wonderful friend. My best wishes to you, your mom, brother, and sister. Parky
